The ex-president was banned from networks like Facebook and Twitter. Now he is aiming for his own communication platform and has also founded a new media company.
The former president has already been resisting his exclusion from the major social networks for some time.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump wants to found an alternative social network. “Truth Social” is the name of the new platform, Trump announced on Wednesday evening in a message from a company newly founded for this purpose.
In November, the network is to be launched for invited guests, then nationwide at the beginning of 2022. The goal, he said, is to stand up to the “tyranny” of big tech companies. “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, but your favorite American president has been silenced,” Trump shared.
Twitter, as well as Facebook and YouTube, had suspended Trump’s accounts in January shortly before his term ended. The trigger was the storming of the U.S. Capitol by Trump’s supporters – and that he expressed sympathy for the attackers.
He also continues to claim, without any evidence, that his victory in the November presidential election was stolen by fraud. With this, he heated up the mood in the country.
Twitter, where Trump followed more than 80 million users, was the main communication platform for him until then. The ex-president has been resisting the blocking of his account for some time.
Trump now also declared that he had founded a new media company – the Trump Media & Technology Group. The company was created through a merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp. and wants to go public.
It is said to be a competitor to the “liberal media consortium” and to oppose Silicon Valley companies that have used their unilateral power to silence opposition voices in America. Trump announced his intention to soon publish his first “truth” on Truth Social.
